Thoughts are not the exclusive intellectual property of any one person (no matter what corporations try to claim). There’s nothing new under the sun, simply a fresh awareness of the world and its possible combinations, which is inherent to each of us. I have always hoped that something of my words might resonate with someone who needs it, much as the words of other writers have shaped me over the years.

What resonates the most for me is a form of the patronage model, in what might be described as “unlocking the commons”: supporting and sharing what we find meaningful for as many as might benefit from it.1

That’s why this newsletter is free to all and is sustained by the patronage of those who value the work and have the means to support it on a monthly or annual basis.

A Word About Payment Processing

Why am I not using Substack’s native payment tools? Because the rents are too damn high.

In addition to credit card processing fees, Substack takes a double-digit percentage of revenues for paid subscriptions. Larger subscriber lists might not feel that as keenly as smaller lists, but even so.

After considering options, I chose LemonSqueezy. This is an all-in-one platform that handles payments, global tax compliance, credit card processing fees, and all the other financial bits-n-bobs that matter for anyone handling money. They take a much smaller percentage, as well!

Should you choose to financially support my work through an annual or monthly subscription, or even just a one-time tip, you’ll do so through the LemonSqueezy payment gateway (just click the appropriate button!). All receipts and patrons-only communications will come via LemonSqueezy as well.
